About Us
Swadeshi Gau Sewa Samiti is a service organisation based in Nandgaon Nehra (Chail Chowk, District Mandi, Himachal Pradesh), dedicated to protecting, breeding and caring for India's indigenous cows.
Our aim
To bring the protection, breeding and care of indigenous cows to farmers and cow keepers in practical, constructive ways.
Our objective
Through this aim, to build a society that is healthy, free of disease and addiction, self-reliant, selfless, full of faith and good human values, and protective of the environment, nourished by sattvic milk-based food and panchgavya.
To make polluted air, water and earth fit again not only for people but for every living being, and to create surroundings free from floods and droughts, erratic climate change, and the suffering of abandoned, homeless animals.
In our tradition this is possible only through the gifts of the indigenous cow (panchgavya): her dung, urine, breath, presence and growth. This truth was set out by the rishis of this land and is described in the Vedas.
Our journey
- 2014–2016
For about two years, members travelled village to village, spoke at katha-pravachans, and attended panchayat gram sabhas and schools, raising awareness about cow protection and the problems faced by animals.
- 2 March 2017
Inspired by Param Pujya Gurudev Mahant Shri Bhagwat Giri Ji Maharaj, Shri Surbhi Godham was formally inaugurated by Acharya Shri Devvrat Ji, then Governor of Himachal Pradesh.
- State government
On taking office, the then Chief Minister, Shri Jai Ram Thakur, gave serious priority to the problem of stray animals and cattle in the state. The Samiti, seeing it as its moral duty, contributed to solving the problem of abandoned animals.
- Today
By the grace of Gau Mata, a modern gaushala with full facilities is now nearly complete.

The support of society
Gau seva is a sacred task done for the good of society, and its aim cannot be reached without society's support. The Samiti therefore welcomes every kind of support: ideas, practical help, financial help and moral support. To carry the work forward, it reaches people through leaflets, booklets, meetings, conferences and religious gatherings.
